Sustainable Beauty: A Deep Dive Into JVN’s Eco-Friendly Packaging
Life with less single-use plastic, it’s fantastic!
Plastics harm our oceans, rivers, lakes, soil and the creatures that inhabit them (including humans). They take a long time to break down so plastic waste can build up fast. Here are some of the ways we’re making sure our plastic usage goes down so JVN can help lead the way to a plastic free packaging future.
- Plastic can be laced with chemicals and ingested by marine animals, injuring and poisoning wildlife.
- Plastic in water can survive for hundreds of years.
- Plastic buried deep in landfills leaches harmful chemicals that spread into groundwater.
DID YOU KNOW?
- Nearly 75 percent of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today!
- Glass can be recycled endlessly without losing its quality. That means a glass bottle of JVN in your medicine cabinet could possibly contain glass from decades ago!
- The little plastic JVN uses is made primarily from post-consumer recycled materials. What are those? Post-consumer recycled materials (or PCR) refers to finished goods (aka plastics people recycle) that are used and then recycled.
Think of it like this:
POST = After
CONSUMER = People
RECYCLED = Recycle
So this plastic is made from plastic that people have already recycled. Neat!
Infinitely Recyclable
Our plastic free shampoo and conditioner bottles are made of aluminum and glass, meaning they are infinitely recyclable.
What does infinitely recyclable mean exactly? JVN is a sustainable haircare brand and comes in recyclable bottles made from glass and aluminum, and recyclable tubes made from aluminum that can be 100% recycled and made new again!
How to Recycle JVN Packaging
Here’s how to discard the packaging the right way*
- Aluminum: Clean and dry contents as thoroughly as possible. Recycle in your community's approved Aluminum bin.
- Glass: Clean and dry contents as thoroughly as possible. Recycle in your community's approved Glass bin.
- Plastic Caps and Pumps: Caps or pumps are too small to be recycled by themselves. Keep them on the bottles, otherwise they should be tossed.
*Please check your local recycle facility to understand if they have a “Caps-On” program. Learn more here.
SUSTAINABLE SHIPPERS
Our caps and pumps are currently made from post-consumer-recycled plastic, and we’re working on finding a better, safer alternative for that plastic in the future. The most plastic in our product by weight is 23% (of shampoo and conditioner) and of that 55% of it is PCR - at MOST 10.4% of a JVN bottle is single-use and 12.6% is PCR of the whole package
Less than 15% of total weight is single-use plastic!
We take responsibility for the waste we create and put thought into every piece of our packaging to minimize waste. Our secondary packaging is kept as minimal as possible while still providing an exceptional experience and is created FSC-certified with soy-based ink and recyclable honeycomb paper filling.
We’re doing our best to ensure our plastic use is limited, so that our oceans, rivers, and of course, Mother Earth, can stay as happy as possible, for as long as possible.
